Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition Anniversary Update Adds Battle Royale Mode

Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition is the latest game that has finally caught up with the Battle Royale craze.

In its recent Anniversary Update celebrating one year since launch, Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition received its very own free-for-all, Battle Royale mode.

Fast-paced at its core and taking place of five new custom maps, it pits up to eight players against each other, in a race for resources and against time.

Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition’s Battle Royale mode starts with everyone on an equal footing. Players initially have access to just two hero units which they can use to scout the map.

Exploration leads to discovering supply and military buildings. Where the former increases the constant rate at which players gain resources, the latter allows them to field more troops.

Resource buildings can change hands if enemies destroy your defenses and get close to them, hampering your efforts of recruiting massive armies.

At the same time, the playable area constantly shrinks, applying constant pressure, and eventually removing these supply buildings from play.

Like its counterparts, Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition’s Battle Royale mode ties victory to being the last player standing.

Its Anniversary Update also introduced an unranked Quick Play queue that makes joining games easier than it ever was. It’s also easier to invite friends to your party.

The game’s main menu UI has gone through a complete overhaul with the purpose of simplifying navigation.

Lastly, the Civ Selection UI also features more information about your pick, while loading screens will now show different tips and hints. Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition is now available on PC.
