Activision and Infinity Ward have dropped an all-new trailer teasing what’s in store for the imminent Call of Duty: Modern Warfare multiplayer open beta test.

Early access to the COD: Modern Warfare beta begins this Thursday, September 12th, for those on PS4 who have pre-ordered the game. Don’t worry though, they’ll be an opportunity for everyone to get hands-on with the Call of Duty reboot over the next fortnight.

A couple of weeks ago there was a brief alpha test over the weekend on PS4, giving players a chance to go hands-on with the new 2v2 Gunfight mode. I sunk a couple of hours into it and I think you’ve every recent to get hyped. It really does feel like a big overhaul to Call of Duty in terms of visuals and gunplay. The 30-second or so rounds in this mode are tense, furious, and shockingly brief if one team gets the upper hand. The audio, too, is a huge step up, and I’m cautiously optimistic this well end up being the Call of Duty reinvention we’ve been asking for. It’s early days though, and just a few hours with a content-light beta.

This upcoming beta test looks as if it’s going to be massively expanded for the COD: Modern Warfare multiplayer beta which is due to run over the next two weekends.

2v2 Gunfight is back, as is 6v6 squad-based combat. Judging from the new trailer though, it does look as if Infinity Ward plans to drop one of the larger-scale modes at some point as well. We can see an array of vehicles on offer which suggests some variant of Ground War.

Fortunately, getting in the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare beta doesn’t require pre-ordering the game. Pre-ordering will get you in a couple days early but the two weekends are open betas. PS4 players can play across both weekends while Xbox One and PC users can only play on the weekend of September 21-23.
