Detroit: Become Human’s PC release date has been locked in. The (ex) PlayStation 4 exclusive will be launching through the Epic Games Store on December 12th.

Developed by Quantic Dream, of Heavy Rain fame, Detroit: Become Human is a branching adventure game with lavish production values. You play as three androids during an intertwining story which depicts a near-future society in which androids are everywhere and behave almost exactly like humans. These machines are built to serve humans and yet they are on the cusp of a revolution, of being declared human themselves. A mandroid, if you like. Don’t worry, you’ll definitely get your fill of clumsy slavery analogies.

For those who’ve been holding out for a PC edition, the PC version of Detroit: Become Human will, naturally enough, be the best version yet. Detroit is already a stunning visual tour de force on PS4 so we can only imagine how good it’s going to look with a high-end PC powering it. Detroit: Become Human on PC will benefit from 4K resolution, up to 60 frames per second (no confirmation on unlocked frame rates yet), along with both console gamepad and mouse & keyboard controls.

Interestingly, developer Quantic Dream claim they’ve created in entire new game engine to bring Detroit: Become Human to PC. The bespoke engine used for the original game was heavily tailored toward PS4, and high resolution/frame rates necessitated an engine change.

“Porting the game to PC has been a tremendous challenge, as we wanted players to get the original experience without any compromise. So we entirely redesigned the interface and developed a new engine to offer 4K resolution and high quality rendering on a wide range of PCs,” says writer and director, David Cage. “We are glad to welcome more “deviants” into the dystopic world of Detroit, and allow them to discover Quantic Dream’s vision of interactive storytelling.”
