The Dota Underlords open beta is available right now. Valve’s new game, which is itself a spin-off from the popular Dota Auto Chessgame mode, is available through PC on Steam, as well as mobile versions on both Android and iOS.
For the uninitiated, Dota Underlords is a strategic battler in which players recruit a team of Dota units, building teams with which to take on other players in vaguely chess-like matches. It sounds perfectly suited to mobile, to be honest, and full cross-platform multiplayer is in.
Access to Dota Underlords is completely open, there’s no sign-ups or lotteries or anything, so the game is basically out now. It’s had an Early Access tag slapped across it on PC, but you know the score.
If you’re interested in giving Dota Underloads a shot then just download it on Steam, or you can find it on the iOS store here and the Google Play store here.
It’s early days but Dota Underlords appears to be off with a bit of a bang. It’s currently at a peak of 146,762 concurrent players, and that number is only rising. It’s already the fourth most popular game on Steam, although this likely includes mobile players as it requires a Steam login for online play. Still, it’s a mighty impressive start compared to Artifact, and we expect this figure to climb sky-high over the weekend. The early reviews aren’t too shabby either, notching up an overall rating of ‘Very Positive’ at this early stage.
I’ll be honest, I’ve never touched Auto Chess in my life. Like an absolute animal I’ve given this a download on Android though as I’m keen to give it a whirl and see what the fuss is all about.
