One of the worst-kept secrets, Plants Vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville has been officially announced. Battle for Neighborville is the latest outing in the multiplayer third-person shooter series, this time with massively expanded social hubs, three large free roam areas to explore, six new playable characters, and all sorts of other gubbins.
Now, as anyone familiar with Battlefield V will tell you, EA struggles to ship finished products these days. They’ve accepted this upfront with PvZ: Battle for Neighborville, launching with an Early Access-style Founder’s edition which is available to play right now. You’ll get six weeks of access before the proper launch on October 18th, with new content arriving each week.
The Founders version of Plants Versus Zombies: Battle for Neighborville will set you back $29.99, while the launch version will receive a price bump up to $39.99. If you’re massively interested then it makes a great deal of sense to hop aboard the Founder’s Edition, particularly considering there’ll be all sorts of new maps, modes, areas to explore, and events during the first six weeks.
Both previous PvZ: Garden Warfare games were actually kinda neat, dishing up third-person, class-based, arcade-type Battlefield action with all the Plants vs Zombies characters. And, to be honest, Battle for Neighborville also looks very promising. However, in true Electronic Arts form, we should warn you that Plants vs Zombies: Battle for Neighborville looks as if it’s going to be filled to the brim with microtransactions, although it’s all pay for what you want, rather than loot boxes.
These aren’t just cosmetic MTX either, with reports suggest users can buy currency boosters and skill upgrades. These are items which can be earned through grinding but paying up for premium currency can shortcut the journey. PvZ’s microtransactions and premium in-game currency ‘Rainbow Stars’ won’t be available during the Founder’s Edition window. Microtransactions will be added when it launches properly on October 18th.
