Nostalgia’s a powerful drug and if you fancy a dose then Blizzard has announced the multiplayer beta for Warcraft 3: Reforged begins this week.

Warcraft 3: Reforged is, obviously enough, a remaster of Warcraft 3. It’s an opportunity for us to remind ourselves of the glory days when Blizzard used to make real-time strategy games. You know, the very thing which made its name.

The beta test for Warcraft III: Reforged will be starting small, incorporating access to just the orc and human races (it takes us back to the Warcraft 2 days) with 1v1 and 2v2 matchmaking. In the coming weeks, Blizzard will then roll out the undead and night elf races, as well as support for additional game modes.

Invites to the Warcraft 3 MP beta are going to be sent out in waves over a matter of weeks. The first batch will be sent out to those who pre-purchased the top-end Spoils of War edition of the game, will later waves will begin to invite folks who’ve pre-purchased Warcraft III: Reforged’s standard edition. It’s unclear at the moment whether it’s possible to get an invite if you haven’t pre-ordered at all.

And that’s about it for now. We should hear plenty more about what’s in store from the Warcraft 3 remaster at BlizzCon 2019 this weekend. With the beta kicking into gear, we’re probably not all that far from a release date announcement either, so stay tuned.
