Nine years! Nine years we’ve waited for Halo: Reach, and even longer than that since Halo 3 arrived exclusively on Xbox 360. PC gamers were given the cold shoulder by Microsoft for far too long but the entire Halo franchise is coming to PC at long last. It all starts with Halo Reach, one of the final Halo Xbox 360 titles but a direct prequel to Halo: Combat Evolved. There are all sorts of PC beta tests about to kick off as 343 Industries gears up for the PC launch of Halo Reach but, in the meantime, here are the system specs required to run Halo Reach PC.

Halo Reach is, comparatively speaking, an ancient game these days. The PC version will of course benefit from some enhanced visuals and higher resolution support but this is, at its core, an Xbox 360 title. As such, pretty much any PC these days is going to be able to tear it apart. Which leaves us in the unusual situation of the ageing GeForce GTX 770 being able to hit 4K/60 frames per second. These are the minimum specs for 4K so you’ll perhaps need something a bit beefier to enjoy Halo Reach on 4K Ultra, but the initial signs are very promising.

The absolute minimum spec for Halo Reach should be within reach for just about anyone who’s bought a PC from the past decade. A low-end and ancient GeForce GTX 450 or AMD Radeon HD 6850 will do the job for entry-level performance. We’re presume they’re capable of playing Halo Reach at 720p, with estimated average FPS of 51-55 frames per second. Halo Reach is very potato friendly so we would imagine most folks will be planning to play on at least 1080p resolution.

Oddly, 343 Industries has said these are the minimum specifications for the Steam version of Halo Reach and they claim the specs will be slightly different for the Windows Store version, although these are yet to be revealed. We have no idea why this would be the case but something to bear in mind nearer launch.

The one final annoyance with these specs is they’re all tagged as minimum requirements. There’s no recommended or ultra to speak of so it becomes quite difficult to gauge just how demanding Halo Reach may end up being.
