What is the World of Warcraft: Shadowlands level cap? What is the maximum level that your characters can reach in the new expansion?

WoW: Shadowlands is finally out and, among a suite of new features and progression systems, it also comes with a new level cap.

However, the discussion surrounding the MMORPG’s maximum level isn’t as straightforward as in the case of past expansions, due to the recently implemented level squish.

World of Warcraft: Shadowlands Level Cap

If you’re here for a straight answer, the WoW: Shadowlands level cap is 60, the same as when the base game first released.

Unsurprisingly, someone already reached the maximum level of 60 in Shadowlands, despite the expansion not even being out for a whole day yet.

But how did we get from 120 to 60? As the MMORPG kept getting expansions, the numbers associated to damage and level kept growing.

Blizzard had already implemented multiple item level squishes to make things more manageable and easy to read, and it felt that it was time to apply the same principle to leveling.

The decision wasn’t taken in a vacuum, though, as it also ties into the new leveling experience introduced in World of Warcraft: Shadowlands’ pre-patch.

This means that leveling a character from scratch is not just quicker, but also rewards new abilities more often, feeling more satisfying overall.

You also no longer need to go through every expansion, being able to choose just one in which you level from 1 to 50. Chromie in the faction capitals can help with this.

So, essentially, Shadowlands increases the maximum character levels by 10 – from 50 to 60.
